Retiree Wins N1.4 Million From Winners Golden Bet

"Thank God, I can now buy my own bus and become a public transport operator and take care of my family and myself." These were the words of Mr. Peter Ebunosa, who retired as a driver with SDV Nigeria Ltd. (pictured above being presented with the cheque of N1.4million by the River state co ordinator of Winners Golden Bet, Mr Ayodeji Akinosun)

Ebunosa, who is in his fifties, recently won N1.4million through a bet he placed at a Winners Golden Bet shop in Port Harcourt. Ebunosa, who has been  Winners Golden Bet bettor since the company started operating last February, was winning for the first time.

He commended the management of Winners Golden Bet for keeping to their promise of prompt payment to winning punters and promised to continue playing on the platform of Winners Golden Bet.

Ebunosa is the second winner of a sum exceeding one million after Whetode James from Badagry in Lagos State. He wants to buy a bus with the money and become a public transport operator.

'I don't want to live up to 100 years' - Pastor E.A. Adeboye says

While speaking at the 60th birthday celebration service for Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners chapel over the weekend, the GO of Redeemed Church, pastor E.A Adeboye said he doesn't want to live up to 100 years
"When I marked 70 and people prayed that I would be up to 80, I said amen. When they said I would be up 90, I said well, amen. But when they said 100, I didn’t say amen. I didn't because I don’t know what offence I would have committed for God to keep me up to 100 in this sinful world when a crown of glory is awaiting me in heaven. I wouldn’t mind to be 92 though, so that I will be alive to preach when Bishop Oyedepo is 80. But to live up to 100, I don’t know about that" he said

According to the charge sheet, on August 4th the soldiers had refused to join the "111 SF Bn troops" led by Col E. A. Aladeniyi to Maimalari Barracks for an operation, thereby committing an offence tagged "conspiring to mutiny" against the authority of the division, an offence punishable under Section 91(1) of the Penal Code Cap P89 LFN 2004 as well as outright mutiny which is punishable under Section 52(1)(a) of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004.

The charges  are said to be triable in the GCM under Section 114 of the AFA Cap A20 LFN 2004 and punishable under Section 91(1) of the Penal Code Cap P89 LFN 2004.

The soldiers to face trial today include; Andrew Ogolekwu, Saturday Efa, Henry Shaibu, James Maifada, Ndubuisi Sabestine, Dauda Dalhatu, Kasega Aoso, Mallam Jacob, Nwonu Friday, Joshua Friday, Anthony Simeon, Olayode Oluwasegun, Tijani Jimoh, Kabiru Abubakar, Mamud Sywasan, James Emmanuel, Mulaika Musa, Magaji Amadu, Amao Bukola, Wuyep John, Oti Kelvin, Ameh Mathew, Olaitan Joseph and others.

Meanwhile a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Godwin Obla, is working towards appealing the death sentence handed to some of the 12 soldiers on September 12th. The Senior Advocate in a telephone interview with Punch however said the inability of the military to disclose the whereabouts of the sentenced soldiers to him is stalling the process of the appeal as they are needed to sign some document before he can go further with their appeal.
"We have been trying to get them (the soldiers) to sign for the process; and because we have not been able to get them, we have not been able to complete the process; there are things for them to sign. Nobody has been able to tell us where they are being kept; nobody is volunteering information; nobody has been able to tell us where they are. We are just hearing that they have been moved to the Directorate of Military Intelligence Cell in Lagos. We will make the move so that the process would be filed on their behalf.” he said

9ice shares pic of his new born daughter

The artiste turned politician showed off his new-born daughter, Michelle Abolanle Akande, on his instagram page today. He welcomed the beautiful girl with his girlfriend, Sukanmi Ajala, last week.

The Federal High Court in Lagos today Tuesday September 30th sentenced 3 Boko Haram members to 25 years imprisonment each, The Nation   reports.
However, journalists were not allowed to cover the judgment. Only lawyers in the prosecution and defence teams were allowed in court.
A source, who witnessed the verdict, but craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told reporters that the fourth defendant was acquitted.
The court, on December 3 last year, barred journalists from covering the trial of 17 suspected members of the sect.
Justice Ibrahim Buba made the order following an application by the Lagos State Attorney-General and prosecuting counsel, Mr. Ade Ipaye.

Men of the Department of Security Services (DSS) had prevented journalists from covering the suspects’ arraignment last November 27.

The accused are – Ali Mohammed, Adamu Karumi, Ibrahim Usman, Bala Haruna, Idris Ali, Mohammed Murtala, Kadiri Mohammed, Mustapha Daura, Abba Duguri, Sanni Adamu, Danjuma Yahaya, Musa Audu, Mati Daura, Farouk Haruna, Abdullahi Azeez, Ibrahim Bukar and Zula Diani.
The Attorney-General, it was learnt, had entered a nolle prosequi (Latin for “do not prosecute”) in respect of two of the defendants, who were subsequently discharged.
Later, another 11 were also discharged in the course of the trial following another nolle prosequi by the prosecution.

Only four – the first to fourth defendants – went through a full trial.
The suspects were first charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and being members of a proscribed organisation.

They allegedly committed the offences on March 21 last year, at Plot 5, Road 69, Lekki Phase I Housing Estate, and at No. 24, Oyegbeni St., Ijora-Oloye, Apapa-Iganmu, Lagos.
They were alleged to have in their possession three packets of explosive construction pipes, 15 detonators, and 11 AK47 rifles with 30 rounds of live ammunitions.

Another church building collapses in Edo state

Barely a week after a building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed in Edo state killing three people, another church building has collapsed in the state.

A building belonging to Liberty Power Bible Church a.k.a Power Palace at Asoro Slope, off Ekenwan Road in Benin city, Edo state, collapsed yesterday September 28th.

According to reports, the incident happened shortly after members of the church left the building after the close of service. No life was lost.

The owner of the land where the church was being constructed, Ajor Sylvanus, told reporters that the building collapsed because it was not properly built...

“The storm that followed the rain was much but I have been complaining about the building structure. The pastor built the church like a fence, no pillar. The block is just ordinary sand. I have been telling him that no pillar would cause the building to collapse. The building fell on my building and damaged many things. I thanked God that nobody died. When the pastor came, he was concerned about the musical instrument in his church and thanked God that his church members were not around when the building fell. I had to call the police. The building has already cracked and I have been warning the pastor that the building will collapse.” he said

$9.3m arms deal scandal: Oritsejafor breaks silence, says I have no hand in it

$9.3m arms deal scandal: Oritsejafor breaks silence, says I have no hand in it

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, yesterday broke his silence over the $9.3m arms deal scandal in which his private jet was used to carry the huge sum of money out of Nigeria to South Africa. Speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Center in Abuja, Pastor Oritsejafor absolved himself of any wrong doing, saying he would never do anything that would tarnish the image of Jesus Christ
"I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the church. As you are all aware, the media has been awashed in the past few days about an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. So far, I have refrained from making any direct public response pending the time that I would have briefed the leaders of the church and explained my position on the issues to them.
I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church. At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine. The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners worldwide at my 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage. With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the jet was presented to me. This has construed an implication that it was a gift from the President of the country. The President of Nigeria has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still wonder why all those saying this cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue of the court in the near future ”he said
He said he was also shocked and distressed at finding out what the private jet which he leased to the company managing it used it for, adding that there is a war being waged against the church in Nigeria
"Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014, to a company to run it. It was the lease that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me. Inasmuch as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the church." He said
He went further to state that;
"The media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the church are at work. Even the devil knows that a house that is divided cannot stand. As Christians, we need unity in the church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country, while christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds. If we permit the enemy divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened. Distinguished leaders of the church, please permit me to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today, that I am not a party to the movement of $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.” he said

How Nigerian Police Destroyed Several Copies of Newspapers Over N5,000 Bribe

Operatives from the Nigerian Police Station in Ogidi, Anambra State consistently for three days destroyed newspapers and Magazines issues belonging to various media houses worth thousands of naira. The policemen who destroyed the papers under the Flyover Bridge in New Parts Market, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state were allegedly angered by the refusal of the vendors to continue parting with some money to the police.

The operation of the policemen lasted through Tuesday September 23, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 in spite of a letter to the vendors from the Local Government exempting the vendors from those prohibited from doing their business in the area. The action of the police also contravened an order by the Divisional Police Officer DPO in charge of Ogidi Police Station, Mr. H Musa to allow the vendors to do their business.

It was said that the vendors had out of pressure, entered into unofficial agreement to pay the police N2,000 weekly for them to be allowed to ply their trade under the flyover Bridge, having been prevented earlier from selling issues of newspapers and magazines there on the alleged instruction from the Idemili North Council Chairman.

Chairman of Onitsha Newspapers Directors Distributors Association (ONDDA) Jude Oguzie, while addressing newsmen on Monday, narrated: “sometime in July this year we got a report from our vendors selling under the bridge that they were being harassed by policemen for selling their papers and magazines under the bridge, and I went with my Vice Chairman and Secretary, Mr. Christian Ikpe and Elder Emma Uwakwe to meet with the police.”

“The police told us during our meeting that they were under instruction from the Idemili North Council boss not to allow anybody to sell papers under the bridge, when we probed further to know their reason for preventing our vendors, the policemen told us that they can only allow our vendors if we will be paying them N5000 weekly.”

“We reminded them that vendors are among the people on essential duties that are not disturbed even during elections, population census, national and state sanitation exercise and even time of curfew but they insisted on being paid, we however, told them that we will present their demands to the media houses to see if it will be approved. We did not know that the vendors later entered into agreement with the police to pay them N2000 weekly after initial payment of N5000, but when it became very unbearable to them they decided to stop and the police swooped on them and destroyed their papers,” Oguzie said.

The ONDDA chairman continued that “when we got this latest information about the destruction of our papers by the police, we went again to meet them and to our greatest surprise the police men recognized us and ordered the vendors who gathered around to leave the scene for them to discuss with us, and they told us that they cannot allow our vendors unless we pay them the N5000.”

According to him, “the vendors have been paying the police N2000 since June this year and they decided not to pay for last week and the police got angry and resorted to destroying their papers, they did the first day being Tuesday 23 and we went to the Local government to report and we were issued with a letter permitting but the policemen ignored the directive and came the third time being on September 27 to destroy more papers and claimed that their order came from the Area Commander in charge of the place and no more the Local Government.

The ONDDA boss said they were experiencing similar harassment from overzealous local government workers from Onitsha North and South Council Areas and Idemili North and South Council Areas and wondered if there was any restriction for vendors to sell their papers. “There is no designated place we are told to sell our papers, we hawk around with our papers, we wonder why we will be harassed this way by people who should know” he said.

However, in his reaction, the Head of Legal Matters in the LGA, Emeka Onwuzuligo said the directive was given in error, asserting that he has given a counter directive through a letter that vendors should be exempted from the order not to do business there. When the reaction of DPO Musa was sought, he expressed anger against the policemen and promised to withdraw them from the place.

Jason Derulo says he & Jordin split because he felt pressured to marry

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest today, Jason Derulo said he and longtime girlfriend Jordin Sparks broke up because he felt so much pressure to settle down...
"What happened...in a nutshell, there was a lot of tension in the relationship for a lot of different reasons... There was a lot of pressures of marriage. There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad bad times, it’s time to call it quits. It becomes something that is unhealthy. I'm not one to throw my business out on the street, but I thought it was important because things are getting a little out of hand.
To be fair, it was not just from her either. It was kind of from everybody. That’s not the sole reason, but it definitely played a part. I'll be lying if I said that we parted in good terms. But it's not a bad situation. There’s no bad blood. We didn’t end off on a weird way or a negative way.'  Jason said...

Arsenal 1 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur

Nacer Chadli could barely contain the delight after his low finish had set up the smash-and-grab raid for Tottenham Hotspur, and he cupped his hand to his ear as he wheeled away in front of the Arsenal supporters. How about that then? What have you got now?

Arsenal did have an answer and it came in the form of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s clinically converted equaliser. This was a high-octane occasion in which Arsenal made the bulk of the running and the draw was the least that they deserved.

But, at full-time, there was the sense of regret for the hosts. Some of their players slumped on to their haunches and it was pretty clear that they were trotting through the chances that they had created and spurned in both halves. Hugo Lloris, the outstanding Tottenham goalkeeper, thwarted them on a number of occasions.

Tottenham’s bubble might have been pricked by Oxlade-Chamberlain, but it was not deflated. This venue has held precious few happy memories for them and this felt like a tonic for the visitors and their new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

It is a defining spell for both clubs. Arsenal have Galatasaray and Chelsea coming up; Tottenham have Besiktas and Southampton, high-flying, Champions League-chasing Southampton, a fixture that has added resonance for Pochettino. But that was for later. Nothing mattered apart from this, and it was spiky at the outset, which was no surprise.

Building collapse: Lagos state govt may prosecute T.B Joshua

It looks like Synagogue leader T.B Joshua will be prosecuted by the Lagos State Government over the collapse of his building on September 12th that left more than 115 people dead.

According to Punch, the state government has set up a coroner of inquest for the purpose of investigating the cause of the building collapse. This was made known in a statement credited to the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Ipaye had instigated the coroner’s inquest pursuant to Section 15 of the Lagos State Coroner’s System Law No. 7 of 2007.
The coroner of inquest, headed by Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, has been charged with the duty of establishing the cause of the collapse of Synagogue’s six-storey building that killed no fewer than 115 persons.
Ipaye, who spelt out the responsibility of the coroner, said its final submission might necessitate the institution of a criminal charge against the church.
The commissioner was quoted to have said, “The law requires the verdict of a coroner, as certified in writing, to be forwarded to the State Attorney General and such verdict may form the basis of criminal prosecution depending on the evidence collected.
“The coroner in this case is Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, who also sat as coroner in the Dana Air Crash case. He is expected to announce his sitting or visitation schedules and other details and to hold the inquest at the premises of the High Court of Lagos State, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja.
“In doing this, he (Komolafe) has all the powers of a magistrate to summon and compel the attendance of witnesses, including medical examiners, and require them to give evidence, produce documents or present other relevant materials.”

9ice says he plans to quit music for politics

In an interview with Sun News, 9ice says he plans to quit music to concentrate fully on politics because he can't be singing at 35. He can't? What he said below...

Yes, I want to leave music for politics. Next year January, I will be 35-years-old and I’m not praying to still be in music at that age. I am serious about politics now. If you listen to my music, you would notice that politics has been part of me; it’s in my blood. When I started initially, I talked about being your brother’s keeper, and that’s why I studied Law at Lagos State University before I dropped out to concentrate on my music career. I hate when things go wrong. When two or three people are having issues, I love to get there to settle their differences. I have passion for politics and it has always been in my blood."
If you go fully into politics, most of your friends and fans will miss you?
I will say they will love me more by the time they see the plans that I have for them. I have so many plans on my mind. Imagine if the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was a politician, he will not just criticize the mistakes of our leaders but also correct them. Imagine if Wole Soyinka was to be the president of this nation, people like him are only preaching the truth and criticising the government but they are not ready to get into politics to make corrections. I am tired of preaching, I want to contribute my own quota for the sake of my people. We have graduates riding commercial motorcycles (okada), selling meat etc, their certificates are not being used but they are shouting that the government is not doing well. There can’t be any change if the youths don’t stand-up now to do something to help the country

Android Is Officially The Most Widely Used Mobile OS In Nigeria [STATS]

We knew that day will come — the day Android will emerge as the most widely used mobile OS in Nigeria.

Thanks to the proliferation of budget Android devices from manufacturers such as TECNO, Nigeria is now officially an Android nation.

Just about six months after it became the most widely used mobile operating system in Africa, Google-owned mobile OS, Android has become the most popular and widely used mobile OS for the first time ever in Nigeria, according to data from StatCounter.

The recent stats reveal that Android usage increased by about 19 per cent within the last one year from 10.95% in August 2013 to 29.94% in August 2014, thereby displacing Nokia’s Series 40 at 29.75%, which has been the continent’s leading mobile OS for several years now.

Android OS is expected to continue growth in its usage in Nigeria and Africa over the years.
